Performing Groups

The East Bay Dance Center is the home of three performing groups. Admission into these performing groups is by audition. Auditions are typically held in September and January.

Description and requirements for each group follows:

Move Dance Theatre

Move Dance Theatre is a performing group established in 1984 by Bonnie Sita and the late Toney Pennewell. Move Dance Theatre has performed throughout the Bay Area and has been funded by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Oakland, as well as receiving a Mayoral Proclamation.

Currently under the direction of its founding director, Move Dance Theatre is open to adults and teens aged 16- up. MDT performs in various venues and projects. There is no charge to belong to Move Dance Theatre.

MDT II

MDT II is a pre-professional group for dancers aged 12-up with 3 plus years experience. MDT II auditions for dancers, male and female, each September and January. Members of MDT II perform in showcases and community events, as well as attending several competitions each year.

Cost per semester is $100.00

MDT III

MDT III is a pre-professional group for dancers aged 10-teen with two plus years experience. MDT III auditions for dancers each September and January. Members of MDT III perform in showcases and community events, and attend several competitions each year.

Student Performances

•Each year our students participate in our Winter Showcase in December and our Student Recital in May. Participation is optional but highly encouraged and a wonderful opportunity to experience performing in a professional theater (Valley Center for Performing Arts at Holy Names University), and to share what we have learned with friends and family..
